Asian Guidelines for Specialty Training and Education in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery


The Asian Guidelines for Specialty Training and Education in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery were promulgated through the work of the Education Committee and Executive Committee of the Asian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and were endorsed by the Council of the Association. The Asian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons is grateful to members of the Education Committee, listed below, for this achievement.

Preface
The first draft of these guidelines was presented and discussed in a workshop held in Kagoshima, Japan, on 27 October 2001. The guidelines were revised at a second workshop in Mumbai, India, on 4 December 2002. The third draft was further refined at a workshop held in Toyama, Japan, on 25 October 2003, with input from an international panel of oral and maxillofacial surgeons from different regions. The council members of the Asian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AsianAOMS) were invited to discuss the fourth draft at a workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, on 13 December 2003. General consensus was obtained for the fourth draft from all delegates and representatives from 14 Asian National Associations present at the workshop. Minor revisions were recommended by the council members and the fifth draft was circulated to all the national associations requesting further feedback. The final draft of the guidelines was endorsed by the Council and the General Assembly of the 6th Asian Congress of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Tokyo, Japan, on 23 October 2004.
